It began in 2017 as a decision to leave a few dollars under some car windshields. Then it was the idea to leave five signed copies of Small Stones from the River in public spaces for strangers to find. These acts, to Kat, were object lessons to demonstrate that giving can be immediate, simple, and something anyone can do, at any time. We can nudge the first domino to create waves of positive change in our communities and around the world.
Those initial "ripples of kindness" soon grew into a national and international project, with books left in the places listed below by either Kat or one of her Book Fairies. Those who have left books have described how satisfying it feels to give anonymously, and feel that they are the ones receiving the gift. If you found a book, let us know!
Everyone can participate in a way that feels meaningful to them. A Ripple of Kindness can be as simple as leaving an uplifting note on a park bench for a stranger to find...then walking away. Imagine the thrill of the person discovering your gift, and you already know how the recipient will feel. It might be exactly what a stranger needs to shift their day and keep the ripple of kindness rippling.
The project (2017-2020) was funded by proceeds of sales from Small Stones from the River.
